Jamestown NC Real Estate, Jamestown area and Community Information
Jamestown is a tiny rural town located in the northwestern portion of North Carolina. With its friendly people and charming atmosphere, this community truly defines the term "southern hospitality". Furthermore, with its close proximity to Greensboro and High Point, people living in Jamestown NC homes enjoy plenty of employment opportunities.
History of Jamestown
The first known inhabitants of the area that we now know of as Jamestown were Keyauwee Indians who lived along the Uwharrie and Deep Rivers during the early 1700s. However, by about 1760, the tribes had moved further south. It was around this time when European settlers arrived in the area in search of productive farming land.
Among these early settlers was a man by the name of James Mendenhall. While Mendenhall moved on to Georgia in 1775, his son George stayed and founded the small village of Jamestown in 1816. Early Jamestown consisted of nothing more than a lumber mill, a grist mill and a small country store. Today, the town is bustling with a large variety of businesses and attractive homes.
